Miami University - Hamilton Campus

 

Assistant Professor of Sociology and Black World Studies

 

 

The Department of Sociology and Gerontology and the Black World Studies (BWS) program is seeking a tenure track assistant professor in a joint SOC/BWS position at Miami University's regional campus in Hamilton, Ohio. The successful candidate will be expected to provide teaching, service, and research.

 

Teaching:  We seek a colleague who is passionate about teaching and learning, with the ability to teach introductory SOC and BWS courses plus upper division courses in areas such as social stratification, race and ethnic relations, and research methods (optional); with the possibility of teaching in the Bachelor of Integrative Studies (BIS) degree program

Service:  As service is core to our mission, the successful candidate will engage in discipline-based service and/or public scholarship while contributing service to the institution, campuses, and department. 

Research:  Being a part of a community of scholars, the successful candidate will show evidence of the potential for ongoing research and publication in the form of traditional, public, or pedagogical scholarship.

 

Required:  Ph.D. in Sociology (by date of appointment); teaching experience; ability to teach introductory as well as upper-division courses in Sociology and Black World Studies.

 

Miami University is a public university with three campuses (Oxford, Hamilton, Middletown) and a learning center (West Chester) in Ohio.  The Hamilton Campus enrolls approximately 5,000 students, many of whom earn their associate's and bachelor's degrees in specific degree programs on the regional campuses.  Our new colleague will be a member of the University-wide Department of Sociology and Gerontology as well as the Black World Studies Program. He/She will be evaluated through a system that involves the Department, Campus, College of Arts and Science, and the University.
